The musician has chosen to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the essential function grassroots venues fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the gigs I did around the area, and further afield, when I was starting out," stated the artist. "These locations are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these locations have ceased operations – about 16 percent of the total UK scene.

In the last year, major artists like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which goes to help local stages.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating more than £100,000 on his recent tour to support 38 small stages across the UK.

These funds supported locations that were facing imminent closure due to difficulties caused by water damage, fires and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and noise complaints.

Other venues received financial assistance in upgrading amenities and technical equipment that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The concept that funds from shows in large arenas backs the independent spots, where it all starts for artists like me, is just sensible," the star has stated.
